Akiko Fujita has taken her passion for storytelling all over the world. A veteran journalist with more than a decade of experience, she is currently a New York-based anchor and reporter for Yahoo Finance. Prior to moving back to the U.S., Akiko was based in Hong Kong for CNBC, where she co-anchored Squawk Box Asia every morning, interviewing major business and political leaders throughout the region. In addition to her anchoring duties, she covered the tech sector across APAC for all CNBC platforms. Prior to her role at CNBC, Akiko was a Tokyo-based correspondent for ABC News, where she led network coverage of the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan, bringing viewers live, breaking developments on the ground as the catastrophe unfolded. She traveled to the epicenter, including the nuclear exclusion zone around the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant, to report extensively on the devastation for all ABC News platforms. In addition to her work in Japan, she traveled across East Asia for ABC News, reporting on the Bangkok floods, the conflict on the Korean peninsula, and the search for NSA Leaker Edward Snowden. Prior to her stint in Asia, Akiko spent 4 years in the Pacific Northwest as a general assignment reporter for KOMO-TV and NorthWest Cable News, where her work was recognized with an Emmy nomination. As a multimedia correspondent, she embraces all aspects of newsgathering - often shooting and editing much of her material. She works across platforms, filing stories for radio, digital, and television. In addition to ABC News, her work has been featured on CNN, ESPN, the BBC, Al Jazeera America, Public Radio International, The Wall Street Journal, and NHK. Akiko is a proud graduate of the University of Southern California, where she majored in broadcast journalism and international relations. She is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and speaks fluent Japanese.
