Protein glycosylation is a fascinating posttranslational modification that modulates protein structure and function. Contrary to polypeptide parts of proteins, glycan parts are not directly encoded in our genome. Instead they are encoded in a dynamic network encompassing hundreds of genes and environmental factors. By performing large scale studies of the human glycome and genome wide associations my lab is trying to address functional significance of protein glycosylation in health and disease. If you have an interesting biological question that is missing a glycomics angle, please get in touch. We already analysed over 160,000 glycomes and like to add glycomics to well-designed studies. For example, GlycanAge test of biological age, the best navigator for individual healthy ageing was developed on the basis of our high-throughput glycomic studies.
