Meena Seshamani has demonstrated, in roles in both the private and public sector, the talent, experience, and temperament for effective senior leadership. A Hopkins-trained surgeon and Oxford-trained PhD economist, she leads the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where she is responsible for operations and policy for the health care coverage of 63 million Americans in the Medicare program. Previously, she was on the senior executive leadership team at MedStar Health (a 10-hospital, 300+ outpatient site system), where her operational leadership led to national recognition by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Commonwealth Fund, and others. She led the Office of Health Reform at HHS over both of President Obama’s two terms in office, driving regulations implementing the Affordable Care Act, and supporting legislative action around insurance coverage, Medicare, and Medicaid reform. She has strong relationships across health care stakeholder groups, from consumer representatives to insurance executives. She is also well-respected and liked by the people she works alongside and manages, motivating through a leadership style that inspires engagement, collaboration and creativity.
