My current work in curriculum and assessment tool design is founded on two earlier careers, one as a senior officer in the RCN, and the other as a teacher of mathematics and physics. Today my interests lie in the promotion of social and emotional skills, and related behaviours, in training opportunities across Canada and helping organizations learn how to do this is respectful effective ways. I seek to design adult learner curriculum materials that integrate the development of soft skills, literacy skills and technical job skills in ways that respect their prior learning and reflect their ambitions. I am also the designer of the Employability Skills Assessment Tool (ESAT) which is a unique approach to developing and assessing soft skills like attitude, accountability and motivation in adult learners. For more information on ESAT contact esat@futureworx.ca. I am a member of the CERIC Practical and Academic Research Committee, and part of the Canadian government working group on modernizing the essential skills framework.
