We need to transform health care from a dysfunctional system that is bankrupting us as a society to a system that is sustainably affordable - and worthy of our family and friends. I am passionate about this cause and excited about the prospects of contributing to it as President & CEO of not-for-profit Blue Shield of California, where our mission is to ensure all Californians have access to high-quality health care at an affordable price. While there is plenty of work left to accomplish this goal, we've made material progress here through our advocacy and ongoing implementation of health care reform, developing partnerships with providers (such as the one published in the September 2012 issue of Health Affairs), and voluntarily capping our net income at 2% per year.
