Bio

Writer and Videographer (Self-Shooting Producer/Director). The media agency I founded in 2006 'Green Traveller' specialises in promoting sustainable tourism through words, photos and film. Recent work has been a series of short films about ecotourism in protected areas of the Mediterranean for an EU project 'DestiMED Plus', a feature for the Financial Times about a green weekend in London, and a series of articles about sustainable travel in Switzerland for National Geographic. Earlier this year my book 'The Green Traveller - conscious adventure that doesn't cost the earth' was published by Pavilion Books, an imprint of HarperCollins. Green Traveller has worked with multiple clients in the public and private sector to film, edit and produce videos as well as other editorial and marketing services on locally distinctive experiences around the world. We film interviews and capture footage with a range of cameras and drones (I am CAA licensed) are experienced in distributing videos across social media. I also manage greentraveller.co.uk, a website that started out as a blog in 2006 and since 2009 has been an information resource for low carbon travel and positive impact holidays. It includes a round-up of green travel in the news and features, e.g. a flight-free route planner, car-free guides, and over 50 Green Traveller's Guides to destinations, compiled by our network of writers, photographers and videographers. I am a judge of the UK's Travel Media Awards and the Wanderlust Travel Awards. I was an assessor for the World Travel and Tourism Council's Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. Previously I spent 12 years as an editor and writer specialising in sustainable travel. I was the editor-in-chief of the trade newswire TravelMole (1999-2003, establishing its sustainable tourism newsletter in 1999), the Guardian's eco travel correspondent (2004-2008), Editor of Sawday's Green Places to Stay, Editor of Green Hotelier, Travel Editor of National Geographic GREEN, curator of the Nat Geo Traveller Eco Travel Reader Awards; writer of the Responsible Traveller column in Geographical - the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society, and author of Mintel market reports (Ecotourism & Sustainable Travel, Ethical Tourism, Pro-Poor Tourism). I was the sustainable tourism consultant to the Travel Channel TV series 'How to Holiday Greener', co-author/contributor to books on sustainable travel (Guardian Books, Lonely Planet, Rough Guides), and have written articles for a range of titles, including National Geographic, FT, Telegraph, The Times, and The Sunday Times.
