    Overall, I found the entire experience this year to be pretty fantastic. It was my 3rd year attending the conference as a speaker, and it took that long to figure out the ins and outs of how to get the most out of South by Southwest when I was there. There are certainly things that I want to try the next year and in subsequent years, like attending some of the movie festivals, but overall, the quality of the programming this year, the ability to access through the app, worked very well.

    It was a super valuable experience. It was also my first experience at South by Southwest. First of all, I now understand why Twitter and Airbnb use South by Southwest to take off. I also learned that like talking to people 90% of the direct to consumer startups today use waiting lists to launch. And at the same time, it was a great opportunity to meet all coworkers coming into town and being originally from Europe was cool to see so many European professional coming to Austin for this event. It really gives you the value of this festival and this conference. And generally, I guess opportunities at South by Southwest are everywhere.

    Ambitious first festival, lots of room for improvement
    What did you like best about the event?
    The scale and variety of content was ambitious and impressive. The venues were well chosen (apart from Rich Mix which was way too small for the events being hosted).
    What could the organizers do to improve the event?
    As a speaker - I found the communications really contradictory in the lead-up to the event, with key information spread across the loading platform/emails/SXSW website that was hard to find. The loading platform was clunky and I had lots of technical issues with it along the way (deleting forms I'd filled in etc.) Explaining things better upfront in terms of what to expect and when would have helped. For example, I wouldn't have managed all of my speaker profiles in loading on their behalf had I realized what it would be used for. Finally, when it came to my talk my name was spelled wrong on the screen visuals prepared by SXSW and my title was incorrect in the host's introduction. As an attendee - the queues were badly managed for each event, particularly Mon-Weds. I got stuck in queues and missed a lot of events, communication could have been much better on which venues were quieter/at capacity. The speaker platinum pass offered no benefits beyond the speaker lounge, I was expecting a priority access to events. I found the quality of the talks very mixed, I'd say 1 in 3 were good. 2/3 were badly moderated or very thinly veiled sales pitches for products/services.
