Bio

I love making businesses better and more sustainable, wherever that takes me. I'm currently hugely motivated by the 'business' of climate change and how we can rapidly de-carbonise the built environment industries whilst making them more productive and profitable. This is why I'm happy to be a member of the Construction Leadership Council's Green Construction Board and also Chair of the UK Green Building Council’s Contractors’ Forum. I'm creator and lead for Skanska UK's Net-Zero by 2045 carbon emissions strategy, which includes responsibility for the emissions of our supply chain. As part of my role I'm delighted to lead our brilliant 70+ strong environment and sustainability team- a great bunch of people! They’re why Skanska is recognised by Construction News as 2020’s Environmental Contractor of the Year! It’s important for those with the privilege of business skills to use them to help others. Nearly a decade ago I co-founded the Sophie Hayes Foundation to find better ways of helping survivors of human trafficking and slavery. I was Chair of the Board of Trustees for 9 years from the start until February 2021, and now SHF is a multi-staff charity supporting hundreds of survivors, led by a fantastic CEO Red Godfrey-Sagoo. I was proud in 2018 to be named one of the #top100 modern slavery influencers.
