I have educational background in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as well as Computer Science. Before changing to academia I have worked in the Telecommunications industry, including R&D at Ericsson. I co-founded Sirrix Security Technologies which was acquired by Rohde & Schwarz in 2015. I am a passionate supporter of Startups. I am fortunate to have an amazingly creative research team in my Systems Security Lab at Technical University Darmstadt (https://www.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/systemsecurity/). We have been contributing to and shaping Security and Privacy Research for many years. Our research interests are diverse and include Trustworthy Computing Platforms, Hardware Security, IoT Security and Privacy, Applied Cryptography, Security for AI, and AI for Security. In particular, AI represents a goldmine for security researchers. Achieving Trustworthy AI is non-trivial. My team has received numerous academic and industry awards and has been involved in a number of joint research projects with many different industry partners. Our recent work with Intel as well as with Huawei has resulted in establishment of several research centers, e.g., Intel Collaborative Center for Private AI (https://www.private-ai.org/) and Huawei Open Lab for Sustainable Security and Safety (https://opens3-lab.com/) with exciting projects and high practical impact. In particular, I am proud of our world’s largest joint industry-academia hardware security contest HACK@EVENT that we have been organizing with Intel and Texas A&M University since 2018. I am happy to announce that Synopsys has joined this partnership in 2021. Join us at HACK@EVENT to get your hitchhiker’s guide to the fascinating and eye-opening universe of hardware security (see https://hackatevent.org/).
