Bio

After 20 years as a technology journalist, I've moved on to the world of enterprise content. I have taught or had my work used in classes at USF, SFSU, AAU, Hastings, and Harvard Law. I have worked with the EFF, Stanford, MIT, and Archive.org to brief the US Copyright Office and change US copyright law. We won multiple exemptions to the DMCA, accepted and implemented by the Librarian of Congress. My writings have appeared in Wired, Bloomberg, Make Magazine, The Austin American Statesman, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and many other outlets. I have been written about by the WSJ, Wired, and The Atlantic. I have been called ''The Gertrude Stein of Video Games,'' an honor I accept, as I live less than a mile from her childhood home in Oakland, CA. I was project lead on the first successful institutional preservation and rebooting of the first massively multiplayer game, Habitat, for the C64, from 1986: https://neohabitat.org . I've consulted and collaborated with the NY MOMA, the Oakland Museum of California, Cisco, Semtech, Twilio, Game Developers Conference, NGNX, the Anti-Defamation League, the Library of Congress, and the Oakland Public Library System on projects, contracts, and exhibitions. I work by day as a a writer and editor for the Hybrid Cloud Blog at Red Hat, covering OpenShift, Kubernetes, cloud development and all the other buzzwords along with that. I grew readership from 1.5 million hits yearly to over 3 million within 2 years. I oversaw a blog redesign, and numerous platform migrations, from Drupal to Wordpress to Hubspot and back again. I increased publishing frequency from twice a week to between 5 and 10 times per week. I wrote and placed stories on external outlets. I make the incredibly complex easy to understand. I am on the board of directors of the Spritely Foundation: https://spritelyproject.org/ . We help usher and manage work on the Spritely Project, which seeks to create open, software and standards based solutions to social media interaction issues. It is based on over 30 years of research into management of online communities and worlds. We've taken in around $2 million in non-profit funding so far.
