My Story - I’ve been a data geek since I was 17 years old. Back then I’m not even sure data geek was a term? I was in an experimental class, the goal was to see if you could teach high school students Geographic Information Systems. That class changed my life. It was in 1997 and I read an article in a GIS magazine on how the WWE used their pay per view orders, t-shirts and toy sale data to determine where to hold Wrestlemaina each year. I couldn’t believe you could do that, it was unbelievably smart, I didn’t even know that was possible. The demand was right there on a map. All those people still saying their prayers and taking their vitamins. It was so cool, I wanted to do that, no, I needed to do that. (I still think it’s super cool). That was the start of my data journey. In 2004 a senior leader started calling me the data diva, it stuck. Turns out I was good at analytics. I even went on to marry a data nerd. I moved to Rogers in 2009. Although I considered myself an analytics person I started picking up all these business case projects. I loved the logic and putting the data to use. My boss and I would debate calculations for hours, making sure we were working on the right things. Excel became my Zen, a place to organize all the numbers and ideas in my head. Next thing I knew I was consolidating roadmaps and prioritizing projects across teams. One day my boss said “you know you’re a product manager right?”. I had never stopped to think about it. I realized he was right. My brain was Product Management driven and my heart was all wrapped up in data. I like to think I'm a hybrid, moving and working in both places together. I love what I do. It’s so cool.
