Why do I do what I do? Because it is fun. I love finding things out. That's why. The fun of finding things out is what drives me and what has always motivated me, whether in lab or on wikipedia. I pick facts up quickly and random pieces of information have an affinity to me. I am a keen observer of what's going on around me, I am sociable and social. I do stuff alone, sure, but nothing is better than being in a team where the shared expertise outweighs the sum of the individual contributions. Where has the fun in finding things out brought me? From Mainz to Lund to Copenhagen to Sydney to Stanford to Santa Barbara to San Francisco. I am a biologist now and do it professionally, I get paid to find things out. And in California. Yay!
