I currently lead the Legal & Compliance function at a company that develops a software platform enabling the integration of financial services and virtual assets. My position entails advising the founders and management, facilitating the business while ensuring the company stays on a lawful and ethical course. Typical areas include regulatory requirements and restrictions relating to financial and virtual asset services, AML/CFT, data protection, corporate and commercial issues, etc. Before my current position, I worked in a top-tier Estonian/Baltic law firm for over nine years. I developed into a generalist attorney-at-law, advising and representing companies from traditional and emerging business verticals in various legal and regulatory matters, including taxation. Importantly, I regularly represented clients in business litigations and achieved favorable outcomes or settlements in numerous complex litigation projects. I am interested in emerging technologies, both as a hobby and professionally, which has directed me to my current career choices. But even working with new and exciting concepts, I believe a good lawyer should never forget the fundamental truths. Keeping it calm, setting clear goals, and being hands-on typically goes a long way towards solving whatever legal issue.
