Bio

I am the regional Head of News in EMEA for S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information, benchmark prices and analytics for the energy and commodities markets. I have 21 years experience managing news teams and writing about energy, commodities and international business. Prior to joining Platts, I was Middle East editor at Reuters Breakingviews and commodities editor at the Telegraph, the UK's largest broadsheet newspaper. I was Australia and New Zealand bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal between 2010-2013 where I restructured the newsroom to focus on multi-platform digital content and coverage of the Asian resources boom. Before this assignment, I was Middle East managing editor of Dow Jones Newswires and the Zawya Dow Jones news service in Dubai, where I expanded coverage in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. In addition, I directed ground-breaking reporting of corporate corruption that won the ZDJ team a William R. Clabby Award in 2009. I reported for 3 years for Bloomberg as the news agency’s Gulf OPEC correspondent and deputy Dubai bureau chief. My career began as a staff writer for Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) in London before I was appointed Gulf correspondent. I covered the war in Iraq in 2003 and was part of the editorial team that won the UK’s PPA International Business Magazine of the Year award in 2003. In the following year, I was named Emap Business Journalist of the Year for my reporting from Baghdad. Before journalism, I served in the Grenadier Guards, completing operational tours of duty in Northern Ireland and Africa. I have also represented Great Britain as a racing cyclist. I am currently making a comeback to competitive bike racing. I was educated at Barnard Castle School and Durham University, where I read a Masters in Middle East politics.
