After just six months of training, Apolo Ohno claimed his first significant speed skating title at the US Championships at the age of 14. In the coming years, he went from kid prodigy to the most decorated US Winter Olympian in history—a title he still holds—earning 8 Olympic medals in short-track speed skating in 2002, 2006, and 2010. Following his final Games, Apolo took his understanding of sports psychology & his personal experience with success & setbacks to develop a resilient and mission-driven approach to life. He wrote a book on this subject, Zero Regrets, in 2011 and went on to become a New York Times bestseller. Partnering with NBC, Apolo continually attends and hosts the broadcasting, analysis, and commentary for 2012, 2014, and 2018 Olympics. A global ambassador for the Special Olympics. He is currently on the bid committees for the Winter Games in 2030/Salt Lake City, Utah, & the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, CA. A lifelong athlete, he has also continued to push himself in the world of sport, winning season 4 of ABC’s hit reality show Dancing with the Stars & finishing the 2014 Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Hawaii. Apolo has spent much of the past decade engaging in cross-border business & translating his successes & life lessons to these entrepreneurial endeavors. His time in Asia led a team to build rare earth industrial processing facilities, off-take agreements, infrastructure projects, and commercial and residential real estate. He also completed the six-week Exec Education program at the Wharton School - UPENN, alongside 38 selected c-suite high performers. Through his speaking engagements with hundreds of organizations—from Fortune 100 companies to nonprofits—Apolo has helped business leaders & teams develop a high-performance mindset while increasing fulfillment, engagement, & output in a world where innovation, disruption, and uncertainty are the norm. Apolo’s most recent work has centered on the concept of reinvention. His life has been defined not just by performing at the highest possible level in various arenas but by his pursuit of new goals & tackling new challenges while maintaining his iconic positive attitude & unmatched energy. Apolo continues to bring these attributes to every engagement and opportunity. He is a venture partner at the venture firm Tribe Capital. As a vp at Tribe Capital, Apolo and team are focused on using product and data science to engineer N-of-1 companies and investments. Tribe has $1.6B+ assets under management.
