Bio

Atia is the first woman CG Animator to break into the Pakistan animation industry. Associate Professor of Animation, has experience in multiple areas of 3D animation with a more traditional background in art and design. Loves physics just as a fun thing, not to study. Professional research centers on the idea of how history is molded by media and how animation can be used to subvert harmful ideologies if used correctly. Has given talks on how to develop authentic diversity in animation and the responsibilities of artists to focus on ethical story-telling. Presently developing an exciting project to rebuild history in VR. Trying to fight Islamophobia by bringing context into how that history was written. Still in progress: the Character Mosaic Project aims to bring more diversity into animation by providing free rigs for ethnically diverse characters. Art leads the way in social change and she hopes to do her part by giving underrepresented groups the tools and platforms to be heard. Previously: Animation Director and Lead Rigging artist on the award winning film, The Iroquois Creation Story. Specialties: Maya Production pipelines, character animation (characters/Creatures/Lip-Sync etc) and rigging (Bipeds, Creatures, Quadrupeds). Also Character/Creature Animation for games. MFA in Digital Art from Pratt Institute Brooklyn NY, and Animation BFA in Communication Design NCA, Lahore, Pakistan.
