After being CEO of a tech start up in the coupon industry to then chasing a vision in a non-profit start up, this summary should probably say “glutton for punishment”! However, as challenging as it has been, seeing The Coupon Bureau come to life has been the most rewarding business objective I’ve ever achieved. The vision was to take an industry ripe for technological innovation and develop an open market ecosystem and supporting standard for innovators to build on. To accomplish this it took gaining consensus of an industry, building the technical underpinnings of the ecosystem and then educating all stakeholders as to the benefits of the standard and solution. Doing this in a nonprofit organization that is industry managed created the right environment of agnosticism so that all stakeholders could feel confident in the solution. We feel like we’ve created the electrical grid for CPGs and Retailers to live on so that solution partners could use it to spark innovation in what was before a siloed dim space.
