I am a medical illustrator, public health educator, and the CEO & Founder of Embodied Labs - an immersive caregiver training platform. My vision is to see healthier & connected lives through shared immersive experiences and my mission is to connect humans more deeply and quickly to each other through sharing their lived experiences. Experience 1) Peace Corps Volunteer: After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Public Health, Carrie spent 2 years working as a Health Education Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic where she fell in love with the way visual communication tools have the unique potential to cross cultural, language, and education barriers. 2) Family Caregiver: From age 19 until 28 Carrie was a family caregiver for her mom. From age 23-26 she was her mother's primary caregiver, who's diagnosis of Early Onset Alzheimer's disease opened Carrie's eyes to the needs of caregivers and the aging services workforce. Carrie completed a Master's of Science in Biomedical Visualization at The University of Illinois Chicago in 2016. 3) Entrepreneur: Though Carrie was initially was enrolled in a PhD program to continue studying the cognitive science of embodied cognition, embodied learning and its intersection for healthcare education, the program's funding was cut so Carrie decided to found Embodied Labs and pursue commercialization of work that originated from her graduate Master's thesis. Embodied Labs Impact: Founded in 2016, Embodied Labs serves 200+ subscribing aging services organizations and has trained more than 75,000 professional and informal caregivers to date. They serve customers that support the continuum of healthy aging: senior services, government, academic training, and corporations. By 2025, Carrie hopes to see Embodied Labs the gold standard of immersive training for caregivers everywhere with >50M end users trained.
