I originally joined BP as a drilling engineer but for the last 9 years or so I have worked as a data scientist in various areas of the company. Most recently on short term assignment in one of the BP Launchpad companies LYTT, as a data science team lead and now in a role managing the development of the Model DevOps framework within BP. I really enjoy the challenge of getting to grips with new data, really digging into it to see what makes it tick and then working with business stakeholders to analytical solutions that provide real insight and can help to facilitate real world decisions in a more data-centric way. As more and more technology turns to data science and machine learning my role has taken an increased focus on developing robust project delivery frameworks where the data science process can be undertaken in a repeatable, measurable way, helping to set the approach to how the company addresses topics like model explainability and underlying bias in both data and model outputs.
