As an immersive storyteller, I enjoy bringing big picture concepts to life through the interplay of meaningful details. My interests lie at the intersection of science, technology, storytelling, cognition and learning. With the goal of a more accessible, sustainable future for the global community, I leverage intentional design, emerging technologies and creativity to improve learning and practice. My passion is to inspire new perspectives. I am an Instructional Media Producer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine IT, leading our research & development of XR / VR simulations, in addition to other forms of mixed media training content. I work directly with our knowledge experts; faculty, staff, hospital personnel, medical students and leadership to develop content that supports curriculum. For instance, I worked with UNC Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center to create an interactive virtual reality simulation, ''Trauma Services VR: A Patient’s Point of View”, aimed at developing empathy and understanding for the patient perspective to improve patient centered communication. It has been piloted with hospital residents and military health professionals in an IRB study; I recently presented it at the AAMC GIR conference, and it is currently in piloting with students. My focus is on the use of emerging technologies to improve the human experience. Working in XR & mixed media production, I enjoy learning new software and designing meaningful touchpoints, employing elements of narrative transport, immersion, learning theory, interactive agency and gamification to engage users and drive change. In addition to 3D, 360 & XR, I have an academic background and skills in Public Relations, Environment & Science Communication, Strategic Writing, GIS, Energy & Sustainability, and Blockchain Technology. On evenings and weekends, I am also a 3D modeler and bespoke world builder, utilizing Blender & Unity for large-scale Social VR events and immersive experiences. My co-creator Cause and I have created a variety of worlds for VR events, such as BRCvr, the red carpet premiere of Baobab Studios' Baba Yaga (where we met the studios' CEOs Maureen Fan and Eric Darnell, and the movies' stars Jennifer Hudson and Daisy Ridley!), Google Cloud Social hosted by Morpheus XR, The WebXR Awards and Speaker Series, Golden Apple Comics VR, and many more; our most recent work has been with the UN ActNow VR campaign.
