I am an IP strategist, providing business solutions with an IP perspective. I'm passionate about innovation, design, technology and intellectual property strategy. I help innovative companies, their investors and advisors to strengthen their competitive advantage and create barriers to entry for competitors. I work with clients in areas from telecommunications, medical devices and consumer products, to autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence and 3D printing. Together with my colleagues, I have developed an innovative suite of strategic intellectual property advisory services, under the banner of Beyond IP Strategy, to help companies use IP to drive business success. I'm proud to lead our national team for Beyond IP Strategy. Recognized as one of the top 300 IP strategists in the world according to the IAM Strategy 300, I'm a professional engineer, registered patent agent and design expert. My more than 20 years’ experience brings a unique combination of deep expertise and board-level strategic insights to startups, scale-ups and world-leading multinationals. Companies appreciate my strategic thinking, curiosity, problem solving expertise and investment in long-term relationships. I'm a director of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (the voice of intellectual property professionals in Canada) and treasurer of AIPPI Canada. He is a member of BLG’s Innovation Thought Leadership Committee, chair of BLG’s Ottawa Charitable Donations Committee, and a former member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee (2008-2018). Prior to joining BLG, I was a senior patent examiner at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. Experience drafting and prosecution of high-tech and mechanical patents and industrial designs in various industries including: wireless technology, semiconductors, security, financial/business methods, digital media and entertainment, consumer products, medical devices, water treatment, oil & gas, automotive and transportation. Fluently bilingual in English and French, I assist clients in both official languages.
