Also an experienced manager with expertise in building high-performing teams from scratch, as well as managing the most senior technologists in an organization. o Hands-on architect with a significant track record innovating, inventing, and delivering enterprise software in the areas of big data analytics, enterprise data warehousing, and information integration at IBM Software Group, IBM Research, Aster Data Systems, Teradata, Spunk, and Apple. o Determined Splunk’s 3-5 year technical roadmap and architecture blueprints in support of both enterprise customers and Splunk’s premium applications, for prem., cloud, and hybrid delivery. Ensured designs of key release features aligned with forward architecture. Led successful advanced development efforts. Managed a team of. the most senior technologists in the company. Was named the first Fellow in the company’s history. o Set technical direction for 3 major releases of Aster nCluster, first as database architect where the focus was primarily on traditional MPP database processing, and after Teradata’s acquisition as Chief Architect, where the focus turned to building advanced analytic engines and storage capabilities in support of big data discovery applications. Managed the architecture group. Was promoted to Engineering Fellow and CTO of the Teradata Aster division. o Investigated next generation data architectures at IBM Research. One particular investigation of how Web 2.0 techniques might be applied in the enterprise result in a new IBM product called “IBM Infosphere MashHub,”. It ultimately was not a commercial success; however, received a Research Division award for transferring research technology to the product division. o World-class query optimization talent. Straddled R&D for years adding innovations to DB2 starting with the transfer of Starburst SQL compiler technology, then adding support for MPP and SMP, materialized views, OLAP functions, Cube/Rollup, XML/Xquery, database federation, and many other features. Designed and implemented many of the novel optimization algorithms in DB2 for LUW. Recruited and managed the SVL component of the team. o Notable technical record includes 13 awards for outstanding technical achievement, 37 US patents or patent pending, and 15 publications
