It ultimately was not a commercial success; however, received a Research Division award for transferring research technology to the product division. o World-class query optimization talent. Straddled R&D for years adding innovations to DB2 starting with the transfer of Starburst SQL compiler technology, then adding support for MPP and SMP, materialized views, OLAP functions, Cube/Rollup, XML/Xquery, database federation, and many other features. Designed and implemented many of the novel optimization algorithms in DB2 for LUW. Recruited and managed the SVL component of the team. o Notable technical record includes 13 awards for outstanding technical achievement, 37 US patents or patent pending, and 15 publications
