I develop methods for mapping natural carbon stocks (especially forests and peats) globally using satellite data. I currently have twin roles: I'm a Co-Founder of Space Intelligence, a rapidly growing satellite data analytics company, and also a Professor at the University of Edinburgh. Specialties: developing efficient cloud-based systems to process and analyse satellite remote sensing images, machine learning/AI to extract relevant information from satellite datasets, the global carbon cycle, field ecology, community carbon sequestration projects, forest degradation, woody encroachment, voluntary carbon standard certification (Verra, VCS, Gold Standard, Plan vivo).
