Edwin Coello is an accomplished law enforcement management professional with 20 years of experience. Areas of expertise include the utilization of biometric facial analysis, facial identification, identity intelligence and law enforcement investigations., Edwin is the NYPD subject matter expert on facial recognition and he has led the development and implementation of the New York City Police Department's Facial Identification Section/ Facial Recognition Unit. He has provided and assisted in the development of facial recognition policy, system design, personnel and best practices. He has collaborated with and assisted numerous of federal, state and local agencies on the use of facial recognition technology. He is also the department representative member of the Facial Identification Scientific Working Group (FISWG). Edwin is also part of the Detective Bureau-Real Time Crime Center, overseeing all major incidents that occur with in New York City.
