Bio

Received PhD in 1996 at RWTH Aachen and the John von Neumann Institute for Computing in theoretical particle physics for work on quantum field theories on lattices. Computational physics experience with high performance machines matched perfectly fields of activity in analyst job at supercomputer hardware manufacturer (NEC). There: application analyst for HPC simulations (CFD, structural mechanics, numerical algorithms), SX vector tuning specialist and occasional benchmarker, pre-sales activities, Linux kernel development for new architectures, Linux scheduler and NUMA hacking for IA64 as part of Japanese software developer team. Building and managing development of HPC cluster software stack and parallel filesystem product. Heading the Research & Development group. Involved in EU and German research projects (eg. XtreemOS, TIMACS, ...). Managed and drove an effort to open up the SX vector architecture, eg. by porting binutils, gcc and a Linux-like light-weight kernel to the SX as well as developed an IO-forwarding library for it. Still interested in hybrid architecture software & hardware development and programming paradigms. Working on parallel filesystems and cluster management solutions. Product development, pre-sales and business development work in the area of storage products for HPC, enterprise and clouds. Current work topics cover system software and compilers for heterogeneous computing with NEC's SX-Aurora Vector Engine, supporting cooperation projects related to the Vector Engine, augmenting HPC simulations with AI and integrating cloud technologies into HPC clusters.
