“Pura vida” – a way for Costa Ricans to wish one another a ‘pure life’ or ‘plenty of life’. Powerful in its simplicity, yet links with what Lincoln said long ago “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years”. I believe both count. Tragically we see from the Global Burden of Disease research that between 1990 and 2010, for every 1 year increase in life expectancy at birth, healthy life expectancy increased by only 0.8. Solving today’s problems and creating tomorrow’s opportunities require a different way of thinking, cross industry collaboration and utilizing the best of technology in concert with actuarial science, data science, behavioral science, life science, design and engineering. This work is central to our shared-value insurance model. Of similar importance is the ability to work with a great team and international collaborators.
