The job currently I have didn’t exist 10 years ago and back in the day, when you needed someone to advise on KYC, there was usually a very good reason for that! I’ve got more than a few ‘war stories’, and (oh, so many) scars to prove it. I suppose initially with my role in KYC, I have managed to carve out a niche for myself. My job ‘encourages’ me to be a little bit of a chameleon, changing my approach depending on who I talk to. From a financial crime compliance perspective, I believe you need to consider the regulations and make them work for the bank, as well as the end customer. You need to have a foot in both camps to understand the pressures of the front office and the people using your solutions. KYC is the bridge between the two. My work history gives me the reputation of a ‘professional poacher turned gamekeeper’. I’m a huge fan of inclusivity within the banking industry, and have found that environments where I’m able to share my experience and continue to learn a lot on the job are where I thrive. Outside of work my chameleon traits continue with a love of football, rugby, my family and Disney. Volunteered for the role of, and incredibly proud to be selected as, an Event Services Team Leader role at the Games of the XXXth Olympiad, Olympic Stadium, London 2012.
