Irina Ramos is a Director in Bioprocess Technologies & Engineering group at AstraZeneca. She leads the downstream activities and innovation related to the development and implementation of Next Generation Manufacturing (aka continuous processing) for Biologics at AstraZeneca. In 12+ years of experience in downstream process development, Irina has worked in Early and Late stage, process scalability, CMC, technology transfer and process validation. She worked on transferring the AZ COVID vaccine process to an international partner. For the last 5 years she has been teaching a graduate level class on Principles of Downstream Processing. Irina completed her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Porto (Portugal) and her PhD degree in Chemical & Biochemical Engineering from UMBC (USA). She is passionate about mentorship and developing resources to improve the communication of science.
