I am currently exploring how things work in the start-up world after the last decades mostly in ivory towers. Long term I want to find a way to best maximize my background in Security Studies (in regards to technology), Strategic Studies, and Socio-political issues with my Data Science skills in order to contribute to solving the pressing issues of today. I received my BA in International Studies from the University of Washington, Seattle (2003); my MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics (2004); and my PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent in Brussels (2010). Around 2017 I began my ''technological turn'', authoring the book ''Open Participatory Security: Unifying Technology, Citizens, and the State'' (Rowman & Littlefield). I began coding in late 2019 and applying data science skills to social problems. I previously authored ''The Transition to National Armies in the Former Soviet Republics, 1988-2005'' (Routledge) and co-edited ''Public Administration and the Modern State: Assessing Trends and Impact'' (Palgrave). Further research has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals such as Security Studies, Studies in Conflict & Terrorism, European Security, and Armed Forces & Society. I have also contributed to collected volumes by Routledge and Palgrave, policy papers by various NGOs, and consultancy outputs. From 1996 to 2003 I served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard.
