John Downing is a power generation thought leader with over 30 years of experience in the design, manufacture, operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex power generation control systems. As the CEO and Principal Director of multiple power generation companies, John has been involved in projects and services at hundreds of power plants on 5 continents. After serving 8 years on active duty in the US Navy managing and directing shipboard power generation and propulsion systems, John joined General Electric at the beginning of the US power generation “bubble” in 1999. Serving as the primary installation, commissioning and startup engineer for over 20 GE large frame gas turbines, John gained in-depth industry knowledge and insight. In 2009 John used that experience to co-find and grow a leading power generation electrical and controls corporation. Specializing in Digital Controls, Excitation, Network OT and IT systems, John’s companies work hand in hand with large utilities, IPP’s, NERC, FERC and regional ISO’s to ensure the nation's power grid is safe and reliable. John has earned the recognition as a subject matter expert in the industry is often sought out by other business leaders and owner operators for advice, co-marketing and combined project campaigns. As a Veteran of the US Navy and Volunteer Fire Dept, John has a passion to ensure the American people are safe and secure. Expanding to power grid security, John has found a new mission to ensure complete power grid reliability.
