Bio

Dr. Jussi Poikonen is a data scientist and researcher with experience in machine learning, energy efficient computing architectures, wireless communication systems, and emerging technologies. He is an author in 80 international publications on these topics. Dr. Poikonen received the M.Sc. and D.Sc. (Tech.) degrees from University of Turku in 2005 and 2009, respectively, focusing on telecommunications, mathematics, and digital circuit design. Dr. Poikonen has worked as lecturer, project leader, senior research fellow, and visiting researcher at University of Turku, with an Academy of Finland -funded post-doctoral period at Aalto University in 2011-2015. In 2017-2019 he was the AI development lead for remote and autonomous operations at Rolls-Royce Marine, focusing on machine learning models for situational awareness and navigation systems. Currently, he is leading AI and analytics development at Awake.AI, where he is also a Co-Founder. Jussi is also an officially qualified teacher, and a musician who has engineered, produced, and played guitar on three globally released albums.
