PHILOSOPHY One of the things I love most about my work is the intersection between personal and career development. Many of us strive to be better people, lead better lives. I believe work is a place to develop ourselves; reach goals; and make a contribution. It’s not all there is, but I think if we are satisfied with our career this spills over into all other areas of our lives, giving us tools, resources and confidence that can only enhance our personal relationships and lead us to reach other life goals. COACHING The people who work with me experience someone who is compassionate, a good listener and able to help them achieve clarity and to figure out steps they need to take to move forward. The process of how we unconsciously construct or misconstrue obstacles to progress fascinates me. I specialize in helping people in a non-judgmental way to uncover hidden assumptions inherent in these obstacles so that they may see them for what they are. Then we re-frame them in such a way that will allow them to take action. By encouraging small steady actions and helping them as needed to either pull back or push forward, their own momentum reaches a level where they can continue on their way. FACILITATING The dynamics of a group, the flow of ideas, the learning that “just happens” are what make facilitating groups an endless source of fulfillment. When I am doing my best work, I am actively setting up the conditions for participants to have an experience that will demonstrate that they already have many of the skills to reach their career goals. The confidence they derive from these experiential learning situations fuels ongoing action long after they have left the classroom. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT Keeping it fresh and current is key for designing and redeveloping curriculum. Again the underpinnings are a solution-focused and experiential approach with a view to “lead” people toward some key take-aways while allowing for unexpected learning opportunities.
