Bio

When I was twelve, I distributed the first issue of the Have A Nice Day (HAND) electronic newsletter, which discussed the trials and tribulations of my high school life in West Virginia. I wrote about many grappling issues, such as preparing for the latest holiday band concert or creating the ''perfect'' March Madness bracket. The newsletter only had a circulation of ten people, but it was my foray into ''journalism.'' Since then, I have actually learned what journalism is through my Master's degree in Science Journalism, a Bill and Melinda Gates-funded trip to Kenya to report on foreign aid, and freelancing articles for various science outlets. I currently work as the deputy weather editor for The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang. Previously, I wrote and produced videos at NASA about Earth and climate using satellite data. I hosted the podcast for the Undark science magazine and am a frequent guest on American Public Radio's Smash Boom Best kid's podcast. I produce funny videos on my YouTube channel (@kashablanca) as well as a podcast called Science Comedy Paradox (available everywhere). I perform stand-up comedy across the country and produce special science-themed comedy shows.
