Dr Kat Arney is the founder and creative director of First Create the Media - a multi award-winning communications agency working with startups and established companies, research organisations, charities and universities in the life sciences sector to craft compelling communications for the audiences that matter. Kat is an expert science communicator with two decades of experience. She's a multi award-winning science writer, public speaker and broadcaster, and author of the popular genetics books Herding Hemingway's Cats: Understanding how our genes work, How to Code a Human, and Rebel Cell: Cancer, evolution and the science of life. She holds a first class degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD from Cambridge University, specialising in biomedical science, genetics and mammalian development. After leaving the lab, Kat spent 12 years in the science communications team at Cancer Research UK. As science communications manager, she co-founded the charity's award-winning Science Blog and podcast, provided comms and media training for researchers and was a spokesperson on national and international TV and radio.
