Run of the mill beardy physicist. DPhil Oxon, MA/Bsc Cantab, FInstP, CPhys, FIoA Laura was CTO of Rescon Technologies for 9 years from startup to aquisition in 2020, leading a team of developers in building health and wellbeing related web platforms and apps amongst other things. Laura performed cutting edge research and analytics on a number of scientific research projects, including building a novel on-the-fly QRS detector (targeted specifically at identifying Atrial Fibrillation) and visualisation and analysis of data from genetic research into cell cycles. Laura holds a doctorate in Particle Physics and GRID computing from the University of Oxford, and a bachelors and master's degree in Physics from the University of Cambridge. She has worked as an academic researcher in Particle Physics, an analyst for the Ministry of Defence, and in a number of financial institutions as a quantitative analyst. She has wide experience of data visualisation, computer virtualisation, GRID computing, web development, and management and analysis of large data sets. She is fluent in Java, PHP, C++, python, R, Xamarin and JavaScript amongst others. She loves nothing better than a large dataset and a puzzle that needs solving, and is passionate about communicating the meaning behind statistics. She lives in Hampshire with her husband, three small children, and a wide and varying range of unusual pets. She enjoys playing the piano, oboe and harp, repeatedly attempting to learn Arabic, and instructing and competing in Savate kickboxing. She has competed for Britain 8 times.
