Bio

As the Director of Innovations at AI Singapore (https://www.aisingapore.org), I lead Singapore’s efforts and investments in Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, critical drivers of innovation and transformation across various sectors and industries. I am passionate about empowering our companies in Singapore to harness AI to improve their productivity and performance through our popular 100E program. We co-develop AI products and solutions with our 100+ strong AI engineering team consisting of full-time AI engineers and apprentices. Some of the successful outcomes of our 100E program include an AI-powered chatbot for an Edutech start-up, a computer vision system for a healthcare provider, and a natural language processing platform for a media company. I am also passionate about cultivating our local AI talent pool and created the AI Apprenticeship Program (AIAP)®, which provides talented Singaporeans with a real-world way to enhance their skills in AI by working alongside our AI engineering teams on industry projects. The AIAP is recognised as the leading AI deep-skilling programme in Singapore and the world. More than 250 apprentices have graduated from the program and have delivered over 50 AI projects for various industries. I also co-created the AI Readiness Index (AIRI), an industry-focused AI readiness assessment framework that helps organisations understand their current and desired state of AI adoption, identify gaps and opportunities, and implement targeted programmes to increase their AI readiness. The AIRI is based on hundreds of engagements AISG has with companies across different industries, sizes, and levels of AI maturity. As a result, several organisations and countries have adopted the AIRI framework, such as GPAI, Serbia, SHRDC (Malaysia), etc. I am also the Co-chair of the Global Partnership for AI (GPAI) Innovation & Commercialization working group. GPAI is a multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to bridge the gap between theory & practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research & applied activities on AI-related priorities. As Co-chair of this working group, I work with experts from academia, government, civil society & industry from different countries to identify best practices, policies & standards for fostering responsible & trustworthy innovation & commercialisation of human-centric AI.
