I’m Lea Jovy (pronounced Lee-UH!). A seasoned entrepreneur, with multiple successful and fully remote ventures since 2005. I co-founded Mission Equality (formerly Diverse Leaders Group) - to build a virtual university (the Equaliversity) to replace the traditional MBA with a leadership program of the future - the ME (Master of Equality). Our goal is decolonise education, leadership and work by developing the leaders we need for an equal future, today. Previously the COO & co-founder of Omnis Education, an Ed Tech company, which I scaled to an 8-figure valuation within 18 months. While under my leadership, this was built as an explicitly anti-racist company, both internally and externally, committed to diversity of all kinds. As the pioneer of the Location Independent movement – the concept that spawned the digital nomad lifestyle and came long before the current rise of remote work - I have deep experience of recruiting, managing and developing fully remote teams. Some of the things I’ve achieved in almost two decades of entrepreneurship: 1. Since 2005, built and lead several remote teams of between 5-30 people, creating cultures based on loyalty and trust before ‘remote’ was even a thing. 2. Spearheaded a global, life-changing movement (inspiring the likes of Dell to jump on the bandwagon) which garnered international press for the blog, book and online programs. 3. Built an 8-figure EdTech business & raised a pre-seed round of $500k in 3 months, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Which means I have deep and relevant experience in… 1. The strategic mindset needed to start, build and grow a scalable and sustainable business, especially online and remotely. Combining a ‘scrappy’ startup mentality with the rigour of scalable frameworks, learned from ‘big business’ corporate experience. 2. The implementation and operational nuts & bolts (processes, people, technology) to go from solo business owner to entrepreneur and a bigger team with global employees & contractors. 3. The change management capabilities needed to bring greater diversity, equity and belonging to a business/team and get buy-in at all levels, including C-suite.
