Humble beginnings, son of a miner and born in the Midlands, UK. I have worked predominantly in the Education, Charity and Gambling sectors for over 32 years, progressing from a front line youth worker and post-16 educator to holding Managing Director and Chief Executive positions. Leading the work of large (£60m+) complex organisations, I have devoted myself to public service to improve the life chances of others. With a proven track record of servant leadership; significant B2B sales and income generation £50m+, political engagement at the highest levels and significant experience working within regulatory frameworks with a detailed knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approaches. I founded the highly-respected, impactful and multi-award winning Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) charity. Building the charity from nothing following my gambling addiction. Raised over £15m and grew the charity with no debt. Leading a talented team that reaches over 1m benefactrices annually. Positioning YGAM on all the top-tables with principle stakeholders in the gambling sector. Secured and commissioned a variety of academic evaluations, quality-assurance kite marks and accreditations to demonstrate public benefit and impact including Investors in People Gold, ISO:9001, City & Guilds / Pearson Assured, Growth Company Trusted Charity, several academic impact evaluations. Finally to my current role; I am Founder & Exec Chair of ESG Gaming which is another not-for-profit organisation I am establishing with an esteemed team of NEDs. We want to contribute to the esports and Web3 community with insight, lived-experience, academic research and educational products to enable Player Protection for players and fans and knowledge for parents.
