A first-generation Egyptian-American who recently became the first woman of color orchestrator in Broadway history, Macy Schmidt is an honoree of the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in Music for her work as the Founder of The Broadway Sinfonietta, the acclaimed all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra. With an impressive resumé of high-profile international engagements spanning the globe — from Music Supervising entertainment pieces for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, to projects in the UK, the Middle East, and India — Macy has quickly risen to the top of her field as an artist, a businesswoman, and an advocate for women in entertainment. A Sony Music recording artist, her unique potpourri of creative entrepreneurship and esteemed musical reputation has also led her executive producing for TV/Media, creative music direction for pop & Broadway stars, speaking engagements, and more. Also named a 2021 “Woman to Watch on Broadway” by the Broadway Women’s Fund, Macy became the first woman of color orchestrator in Broadway history with her Additional Orchestrations of Kimberly Akimbo. Her work has been praised by The New York Times for its likeness to a “classic Disney Act I finale in the brassy manner of Alan Menken.” At just 23 years old, Macy recently founded The Broadway Sinfonietta, which has since been featured by outlets such as NBC, CBS, Rolling Stone, Billboard, BuzzFeed, Grammy Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Elle, TeenVogue, and more. In addition to her career as an orchestrator, Macy holds an accomplished resumé as a Music Director. She has performed for presidents with Kelli O’Hara at the nationally televised twentieth anniversary 9/11 memorial concert, and with Tony Award-winning artists and Broadway stars such as Adrienne Warren, Solea Pfeiffer, Leslie Odom Jr., Ariana DeBose, Alex Newell, and countless others. Recent galas under her Music Supervision have honored theatre legends such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Kander, and pop icons such as Brandy and Jordin Sparks. Macy is known to take her work across the globe as well — from Shanghai, where she music directed an international musical theatre program, to India developing new musicals, to Qatar where she Music Supervised Monsoon Wedding’s production run as part of the entertainment for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Additional productions and creative projects span the UK, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Most recently, Macy has been working to establish a network of international all-women ‘satellite orchestras’ around the world. Macy is represented by CAA.
