As we continue to navigate important crossroads in both political and personal spheres, it’s time to embrace collaboration as a means to eliminate inequalities and enable a fairer society. In all facets of my professional and personal life, I’m inspired by the potential to drive change and make a real difference in the world. I’m a firm believer that by working with people of all backgrounds, with all skill sets, and from all walks of life, there is no goal out of reach. I’m Mark, the Director of Network Resilience at Transport for West Midlands: the transport arm of West Midlands Combined Authority. In my spare time, I’m a Co-Founder, Trustee Board Member, Committee Chair, RSA Fellow, Live Show Co-Host and Music Producer. My role as Director of Network Resilience is the culmination of 30+ years of experience working across the Transport and Automotive industries – 20 of which I’ve spent in the Transport Planning sector. During this time, I’ve delivered various transport solutions for both the public and private sectors. With a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to innovation, I develop and implement the vision, strategies and resilience plans for the West Midlands transport network. I’ve utilised my automotive expertise to publish a Strategic Framework for Road Safety for the Caribbean region as part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety. I also published Avoiding Collisions in Barbados, a practical book that provokes drivers to consider and avoid the profound consequences of hazardous driving in Barbados. Away from transport, I have a keen interest in music production and previously co-founded a digital download music store (iRibbeantunes) where I enjoyed a hands-on role as Content Manager. I’m also the owner of a music production company (Market Road Music). You can listen to my single, Daddy I Miss You, on all digital streaming platforms. Having had the privilege to travel internationally, I’ve built a broad and collaborative network of changemakers who inform and advance my education, continuing to develop my personal and professional growth. Supporting the next generations of technical leaders is important to me. For this reason, I co-founded The Markonia Foundation: an enterprise dedicated to equipping motivated young minds in Barbados with the tools they need to make a difference in the world. As a dedicated changemaker, I am a Co-Host, Trustee and Chair for various advisory boards and pioneer playing an active role in instigating change through conversation, innovation and inspiration.
