Bio

Martin is an independent energy consultant focussing on decarbonisation of the global energy system. He is head of hydrogen research at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and a Senior Associate with Gas Strategies. Earlier in his career he spent over 30 years working for Shell in commercial and general management roles mainly in Gas & Power / LNG, but also in Exploration, Downstream and Alternative Energy businesses. He has a proven track record of closing negotiations (Sale and Purchase and JV agreements), and leading business development and project teams to deliver commercial value, often against challenging timelines. Excellent interpersonal skills, developed through both negotiating and networking roles. Ability to work at wide range of levels from board level / government to operational / technical / economics disciplines. Ability to work successfully across cultures, demonstrated through overseas assignments in Germany, Japan, Philippines and Australia and multiple international transactions. Ability to assimilate new information quickly and identify key issues in complex problems. Senior Leadership Team roles in Australia LNG, Shell Philippines and Shell Biofuels business.
