As manager of the Data Science Team and Medical University of South Carolina, I lead a team of Data Scientists that work to develop machine learning applications to help solve challenges in health care. I have deep expertise and experience in developing in python SQL and R, creating and spark-based machine learning and deep learning applications and integrating them back into EHRs. I also have been a coinventor of a scalable cloud-based data model extracted from the EHR specifically to support machine learning development. My education background is a MA in Mathematics and BS in Aerospace Studies, and I am currently mid-way through a PhD program in Biomedical Data Science and Informatics. I’ve been working in health care as a Data Scientists since 2015. Previously I had worked on oceanographic research vessels, and an officer for NOAA and for NSF, doing everything from operating ships in Bering sea to setting up real time data acquisitions systems for on board sensors.
