I do scalable startups on things that save lives or significantly reduce human morbidity, and that usually involves Biology, Chemistry or Physics. And IT is not usually a major component of these ventures. I dream in molecules. I stand on the shoulders of these giants in the life science company creation world: * John Martin, PhD, now passed, Executive Chairman and former CEO of Gilead from early days in that company to $150 BB in valuation. I worked under John as a Chemist at Syntex. * Lita Nelsen, who ran MIT's Technology Licensing Office for years and now consults. I did my thesis at MIT under Lita and helped start several companies out of MIT, one of whichnmade money for the Institute. * Larry Bock, now passed, who I think of as the premier seed artist of my generation. 22 companies started worth over $100 BB today. I worked with Larry when I was at Norwest Venture Partners and managed our fund of funds investment in Avalon. Larry and I did a startup in Seattle too.
