Michael has a multi-disciplinary background in Law, Economics and Finance. Before joining Gold Fields, Michael was the Company Secretary & Head, Legal & Compliance at SIC Financial Services Ltd (SIC-FSL), a subsidiary of the largest insurance company in Ghana with US$74 million assets under management. He was a member of the IMC that run SIC-FSL for 7 months prior to handing over to a new Chief Executive Officer. He was also a member of the pioneer team that managed and invested the US$10m Bedrock Venture Capital Fund and represented the Fund on a number of investee company Boards. Prior to that Michael had a brief stint as the General Manager of the Ghana subsidiary of SW Global, an ICT software company financed by the IFC and Zenith Bank. Michael was an Associate at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, where he worked on a number of deals including the IFC’s $125 million funding of Newmont’s Ahafo project. Other Minerals/Mining transactions he has worked on include Redback Mining’s acquisitions of Chirano mines. He represented several clients like Silver Star, Coca Cola Bottling, HSBC, Stanbic Gh, The Trust Bank, Modern Automobile, Moreton Smith International, Mohn Media and OPE at all levels of the court system. Michael also worked with Lawfields Consulting where he was involved in consulting for clients like the World Bank, DANIDA, USAID/SIGMA ONE Corp and the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE). He is a qualified legal practitioner and licensed by the SEC as an Investment Advisor’s Representative having passed the GSE’s Securities Industry Course.
