Bio

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego, the Associate Faculty Director of the UCSD Design Lab, and a Research Health Science Specialist at the VA San Diego Health System. My work on Human-centered eXtended Intelligence (https://hxi.ucsd.edu) is situated at the intersection of computer science, design, and the health sciences. Current work focuses on Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and eXtended Reality, investigating tools, techniques, and infrastructure to support the deployment of innovative interactive multimodal and tangible devices in context, studying and quantifying the cognitive consequences of the introduction of this technology in the everyday life. Background I am originally from the southern and Italian part of Switzerland (Ticino) where I completed all the basic schools. I hold a master in Computer Science and Engineering from ETH Zurich, where I also completed my Ph.D. in Summer 2009. I joined the University of California San Diego in October 2009, as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Distributed Cognition and Human Computer Interaction Lab. I moved into the faculty of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UCSD and the VA San Diego Health Systems in 2012.
