I have had the honor of working for the leader in cancer genetics for most of my career. I chose a career as a genetics professional because I believe if you are fortunate enough to have a close family, you should not have that family destroyed by such a devastating disease. I’ve learned what it means to really treasure the personal and professional family that I have built over time by being there for others through their cancer journeys, and by partnering with physicians to find better ways to deliver their care. Little did I know when I chose this path, it would lead right back home. All of the years that I worked so hard to help physicians and patients understand a better way to treat breast cancer, using genetic information would prepare me to be there for my own family. My family has been affected multiple times by cancer. Knowing this information empowered me to undergo testing and to proactively manage my own risk. I continue to strive everyday to help families and working moms like myself, to feel empowered to take control of their health.
