I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, at New York University. I research and write about undersea cables, alonsider other topics in digital media and environmental studies. My first book, The Undersea Network, documented the long history of submarine communications cables, starting with the telegraph cables that formed the first global networks in the 1860s and extending to the fiber-optic infrastructure that now carries much international Internet traffic. Specialties: telecommunications history, digital cultures, global media
