I joined HSBC in 2015 and have enjoyed several roles across the bank including Head of Consumer Banking and Wealth Management for Latin America, Global Head of Small Business Banking, Deputy CEO and COO for Mexico, before becoming CEO for Mexico. Most recently I was CEO of HSBC Bank plc and a Group General Manager, with responsibility for Continental Europe and the UK Non Ring Fenced Bank. Having taken on the role of Chief Executive, Wealth and Personal Banking in February 2021, together with my team I am responsible for making HSBC one of the biggest retail and wealth providers globally. I am also focused on leveraging our digital capabilities to transform the experience for our customers, ensuring HSBC is the international bank of choice and driving HSBC to become a leader on sustainable finance and ESG. Before joining HSBC, I worked at the Central Bank of Portugal and Banco Santander and have more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry across retail, commercial, corporate and global banking and markets. I started my career in my home country of Portugal, and have worked in many different markets including the US, Spain, France, Peru, Brazil, Mexico and the UK. One of my biggest passions is diversity. Being part of a diverse family and having lived in so many different countries during my career, I have seen first-hand the importance of bringing together diverse thoughts and perspectives to create effective teams and really reflect the needs of our customers. Outside of work, I like to spend as much time as possible with my wife and two sons, as well as playing tennis and other sports.
