Bio

An experienced General Counsel having spent many years in various legal, risk and business teams across banking and fintech environments. I have worked in both UK-centric businesses and also in global companies. My key drivers are being innovative and creative in an ambitious business and building resilient, technically strong and confident teams. I currently head up the Legal function, the Regulatory team and the Company Secretarial function at Checkout.com. My key priorities on joining have been to lay solid foundations for the teams so that we can support the rapid scaling and growth of the Checkout business around the globe. I am very proud of playing a key role in many of the transformation projects within Checkout.com:- including our Brexit transition to France; multiple global regulatory licences including a crypto exchange licence; and being the first payment company to settle in stablecoin. I have also led the legal support of our 3 fundraisings tracking our valuation from $5bn to $40bn (Series B to D), together with multiple acquisitions around the world. During my time at Zopa, I was very proud to have been part of the core team that successfully secured a bank licence enabling Zopa to become the first P2P company to also become a bank. I supported the Zopa peer-to-peer lending business and also helped to create the new bank products, namely deposits, auto financing and credit cards. I also led the corporate work including multiple fundraisings, secondary sales, securitisations and US tax reorganisation. In previous roles I supported a wide breadth of businesses and an interesting variety of legal and regulatory disciplines, including: - - supporting the consumer credit regulated businesses of Barclays, including overdrafts, loans, regulated mortgages, and second charge lending; - undertaking a business secondment to lead and establish a new payment acquiring business in Ireland following a change to European interchange regulations; - being a key member of the Executive Committee and leadership team of Barclaycard’s merchant acquiring business and leading a large legal team in supporting the payment acceptance business; - being a member of the Barclaycard International Executive Committee, which ran Barclays European cards business. This gave me a great foundation in international legal work and risk management; and - leading the recruitment of Barclaycard’s first two lawyers in Barclaycard Germany and AbsaCard in South Africa and continuing to manage and embed these new teams into our overseas offices.
