Bio

I am Pablo, a machine learning scientist, deep learning evangelist, applied AI ethicist. I am a professional member of the ACM and IEEE. My degrees are in computer science (B.S. ’03), electrical engineering (M.S. ’07), and electrical and computer engineering (Ph.D. ’11). Recently, I was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Baylor University. Before that, I was at Marist College in a similar position. At Baylor, I taught machine learning-related courses. At Marist and Baylor I've had the opportunity to work on different aspects of machine learning, data science, big data, and large-scale pattern recognition. One of our most recent projects on the detection of leukocoria (see leuko.net for more info) is based on deep learning and image-processing techniques. Another recent research project originated from work at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center where we modeled a particular kind of atmospheric particle using different machine learning methods. In the past I worked as Software Engineer for about 8 years; I am familiar with programming languages, particularly C++, Java, and Python; occasionally I use MATLAB. I've been recognized for my creativity and academic excellence; received the IEEE Student Enterprise Award in 2007, and a Research Excellence Award from the Paul L. Foster Health Sciences School of Medicine of Texas Tech in 2009. In 2011, I was inducted into the engineering International Honor Society Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), and in 2021 to the CS Honor Society Upsilon Pi Epsilon.
